The Mount Everett Girls' Basketball Team takes pride in representing the school. The coaching staff has a twofold philosophy: while teaching and stressing the fundamentals of the game of basketball, we incorporate in our teachings the game of life, and how being part of a team relates to life after high school.
The girls' team currently plays in the highly competitive Berkshire County League, representing the South Division. Our schedule consists of 14 league games and 6 independent games with teams from the Pioneer Valley Leagues and also includes various invitational tournaments such as the Franklin Tech Holiday Tournament.
The coaching staff consists of head varsity coach Scott Rote ('79), who is in his 17th season. The girls’ team has been to the Western Mass tournament 4 times and played in the Western Mass Championship game for the first time in 2016 losing to 3 time Western Mass Champ and State runner up Quabog. 2016 was a milestone for the Lady Eagles as they had a season best record in the school’s history of 16-4 and received their highest seed to date, the 2nd seed in the Western Mass tournament. In 2017 Coach Rote received Coach of the Year for a female sport in Berkshire County. Coach Rote had been involved in coaching both boys & girls youth basketball at Mt. Everett from 1980 to 2001 when he took over the girls high school team.
Ashley Barrett a third grade teacher at Undermountain Elementary is in her first year as JV Coach taking over for long time JV coach Fred Finkle who retired at the end of the 2016-2017 season. Coach Barrett was a four-year player for Wahconah High School and after graduation went on to play college basketball one year at Western New England College and then three years at Russell Sage College where she was a team captain. Coach Barrett had previously assisted with the girls’ basketball program at Wahconah prior to her coming to teach in our district.
