National Honor Society
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS honors those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921 and 1929.
The Auriga Chapter of the NHS is always active. Students perform many different kinds of services, some on their own and some as a group. Each year the group holds a fundraiser to raise money for the Cum Laude awards, which are given out at graduation.
Members have also earned service hours being a Big Brother or Big Sister, working at voting sites, volunteering at the Berkshire Botanical Garden's Harvest Festival, serving at Breaking Bread Kitchen, painting a checkerboard on the Undermountain playground, and helping with such projects as Special Olympics, Homework Center, Landmark Volunteers, and various sports camps. The students' helping hands show up in the community and at school; and they still manage to keep up their grades!
