Local photographers Dan Mean and Sally Eagle are presenting their work for students at SBRSD in an in-school photography exhibit.
MeadEagle Photos exhibits travel photographs from around the world. The images are vibrant, unique and bring the viewer into the environment and culture of far off destinations. From the Mead/Eagle website: "The primary objective of MeadEagle Photos is to provide high impact visual images of wildlife, landscapes, and cultures around the world to college and high school students as well as community groups throughout the Northeast. We exhibit in galleries, museums and other educational spaces in order to encourage a dialogue: whether about photography itself, global studies, environmental studies or as a basis for the interaction of the visual and literary arts." SBRSD students, staff and community members have been enjoying this exhibit since September and students continually stop in the halls in intrigue. The Global Arts Class is exhibiting their first project at Mount Everett, outside of the administration office.
Art is a common thread throughout the world and can be used as a vehicle to increase awareness and appreciation of other cultures. Cultural bias and ignorance need to be addressed as our global community becomes more and more accessible. In the process of creating and looking at art, students gain a deeper understanding of others—as well as a creative outlet in which they can express ideas or communicate opinions. Global Art is an elective created to do just that. Students will begin the course by completing a number of explorations in map arts and cartography. Mapmaking, imaginative maps, and geographical studies will organize stories about different places and about themselves in their relation to the world. Each piece of artwork in this exhibit is unique and represents a concept which may be particularly personal to the artist. Students had the freedom to choose the medium and format which would best communicate their message. |
